Old Cushing Plant, Calgary, Alberta.

The old Cushing Limited, lumber factory was located on 1st Street and 12th Avenue SW. It was established about 1908 by Mr. W. H. Cushing, who came to Calgary about 1908, from Drayton, Ontario. Four Cushing brothers followed him to the west and with the exception of John Cushing who worked in the customs office, they all joined the 'W. H. Cushing Company: George Cushing in Regina, Saskatchewan; A. T. Cushing in Edmonton, Alberta and also had a branch in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. A. B. Cushing broke away from the older firm and established the A. B. Cushing Mills Limited, which is still in operation in Calgary, Alberta.
