But even all this dampness not dismay, some twenty thousand people, for 18,811 pleasure, seck- ers-paid their way into the fair grounds during the day. No bet- ter proof is needed of the firm hold that Edmonton’s annual exhibi+ tion has secured in this.city and district. “i Wight Saw Almost Everything ~ Everyone at the grounds yesicrday sai ‘alost all that they would“have seen had the weather ‘heen-of Alberta's best. Onily: one big item of the progran aunounced had tebe postponed ‘That was the parade of prize winning. cattle with Baby Sharman and-the Phousand Dollar Culf-at te-head. “Everything-elséwag-rulr og practically on scheduled time; The judging. of inigisieppers ‘and other light orses was carried oi in the stock pavilion instead of in the borse ring in front of the grand stand, although, as it did not raisr to aby appreciable’ extent during the afternoon, it would have been quite possible to hold this inttresting event in-the usual place. As it was, about one thousand people were in the pa watching the horses being put through their paces. Rube Big Crowd in Evening i "A remarkable feature of the day was the big crowd that filled the grand stand in the evening, in spite of the faet that it started to rain about five o’clock and hardly stopped all night. And, while some of the vaudeville acts had to’ be shortened ‘because of the wet platfori the crowd was given @ taste of ever, number on the bill. The balloon ascension was made in the falling rain and proved sensational, the aeYonaut niaking the triple parachute drop, rnd even hitting the ground in. full view of the erowd on the stand. This was possible owing to the fact that there was very little wind and the balloon went straight up in the air. he landing was made just outside the race track, in front of one of the cattle stables. The military tattoo wes given also, although under somewhat of a handicup, ax the marching was done inside the grand stand en: closute. The rowd showed its approvi, however, by continued cheering. ‘To conclude the evening, a Sine display of rockets and bombs was provided. Jt was.a dig-evening all around.
