Group Captain Fred McCall shaking hands with E. L. Richardson, manager of Calgary Exhibition and Stampede.
Flying Officer is Group Captain Fred McCall, Distinguished Flying Cross, one of the great flyers of World War 1914-1919, and a Calgary boy for whom the Calgary airport is named. The man shaking hands with him is the late general manager of the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, E. L. Richardson. Fred was a great attraction at the Fair - he did stunts in view of the grandstand. During the day, he took Mr. Richardson's sons as passengers only to find that he was having some engine trouble and had to come down very carefully. He did that and landed squarely on top of the merry-go-round [carousel]at the midway. No one was hurt and there was very little damage.
