Clastic sandstone samples
These samples were formed by the deposition and accumulation of loose minerals, grains, and rock fragments followed by cementation and compaction. The clasts are surrounded by framework matrix. Grain size is related to the energy of the environment where sediments are deposited. High energy environments with a strong current can deposit larger grains, as seen in sample A, while low energy environments allow for smaller sediments to become suspended in the water column, which leads to a finer grained, matrix-supported sample, like sample B. Sample B can be classified as an immature conglomerate due to its variation in clast size and roundness, while sample A is slightly more mature sample as it is clast supported and comprises of more rounded grains with more moderate sorting.
