Grain size is related to the energy of the environment where sediments are deposited. High energy environments with a strong current can deposit larger grains, as seen in sample A, while low energy environments allow for smaller sediments to become suspended in the water column, which leads to a finer grained, matrix-supported sample, like sample B. Sample B can be classified as an immature conglomerate due to its variation in clast size and roundness, while sample A is slightly more mature sample as it is clast supported and comprises of more rounded grains with more moderate sorting.
