Teredolites trace fossil
Teredolites are an ichnofacies trace fossil that is commonly formed by wood-boring bivalves known as ‘shipworms’. This fossil shows elongated and overlapping wood boreholes with a circular to sub-circular cross-section. Some teredolites have thin calcareous linings which are representative of their marine environment. The most common teredolites are found in wood grounds that have been submerged in open marine waters. These fossils have been dated from the Cretaceous to recent.
