Fencing, Usher ranch, Scollard, Alberta.
Early fences were built from willow posts which were cut on the ranch from willows found around the sloughs or in the coulee; hired men in the winter would sharpen posts for spring and summer fencing; these were pounded in with a maul; Photograph taken by Gordon Grant (on his return from Burma to Scotland where he retired) who was Thomas Usher's close school friend from the 'old country' (Scotland).
