In the early 1900s the lease was said to be about 1/3 water in sloughs but in the 1930s it dried up completely; wells were drilled but to some degree sloughs have returned; wells drilled in the 'pocket', cow pasture, east field, and south field; one man was required to ride horseback full-time to check wells and fill gas tanks; this photo is taken on the 'school section' located between the main lease and the home place at Scollard.
