Here in Frankfurt the streets always seem to bustle with peo- ple scurrying somewhere, About every German carries a bulging briefease, contents unknown. Ons thing they must carry if they eat away from home are their own utensils. Of course the more the briefcase bulges the more apt the individual possosa- 4 ing same is to be a dealer in, sundry bartering jobs that may 4 or may not be legal, but will eventually lead to food in some way or other. Most of the males need a haireut. After seeing these long haircuts affected in particular by the younger males the more happy 1 am to take e lingering look at the military haircuts. x Shoes is another item that creates interest. When I first arrived I just couldn't get used to having my feet stared at. It seems that we are all considered wealthy because we wear good shoes... Spent my first two weeks here getting oriented which meant junketing to the required places. So gotin a speedy trip to and through part of Bavaria. The people there are entirely different from the characters seen around this city. They seem industrious and so much more determined and rock fast than the apathetic individuals seen for the most part on the streets here. The country look- ed better cared for, and of course it is more productive. Our last junket was to Berlin. ty our orders in Russian as that was travel in the Russien zone and one of the few permitted the Allied groups use... About the only actual sight- seeing I've done was one Satur- day afternoon that we visited the Kronberg Castle, one time summer home of the Princess of Hesse (one of Queen Vic- toria s daughters). I yot quite a bang out of the ex-Kaiser (of World War IL renown) Wil- helm's bedroom in that ramb- ling structure (it has 60 or 70 rooms). The bedSpread is a beautiful sample of handicraft and has the British coat of arms. wonder if Bill slept well under that. Said coat-of-arms popped up in many places throughout the part of the cast- le that we were permitted to noe; and I might add held its own with all exaniples of Italian this and that in furniture, dishes and auch that were most prevalent throughout the entire achloss. The surroundings are gorgeous as we saw it with the turning leaves. I must return and explore some of the high- ways and bypaths that did en- chant and beckon the wayfarer.
