He used to sell the fish to the hotel at Kekville and district. One day while fishing at his favorite spot which was on a a-point with a small bay nearby and not having much luck he decided to try another place and as he walked around the little buy be noticed movement in the mud and on investigation noticed a small pike with only one eye struggling in the mud and looking wistfully at hin. Lt seems the water had gone down and left it stranded. Well the old guy had a warm heart so he rescued the one-eyed pike and carried it home and putitin his water trough where he fed it regularly and so the fish grew up and liked the old man, The following summer a tor- rential rain overflowed the wat- er trough and the one-eyed pike was washed outand the rushing water carried it back to the lake; but that wasn't the end. Later on that summer the old man was running out of grub and the fishing wasn't so good and he was pretty downhearted. However he thought he had bet- quite a rifile in water some dis tance outin the Jake and as he watched, ib kept getting closer to him and he could see that it was a school of fish, and behind them was his one eyed pike smiling and winking at him. Inte the little bay the one eyed pike herded them and the old man jumped in behind and dam- med it, and there in the little bay was his grubstake. He gathered up the fish and took hia one eyed pike back to the water trough and I might say here that they lived happy forever after, but I m not through yet. When the old guy needed more grub he had a bright ides, he took his one eyed pike down to the lake and turned it loose and after quite a long wait, the rifile he expected to see appear- ed and behind it was hie one eyed pike, As before he dammed up the bay and took the fish and his one eyed pike home. He kept this up until one day his one eyed pike came back to him with no more fish, He had fished out the north end of the lake and that is the reason fish- ing is poor there now. I have since heard that the old guy moved away and took his one eyed pike with him. They say that he turned up at Buck Lake but the fish there had beard about him and bis one eyed pike and ganged up on the traitor and killed it. kk PROOUCTS G.W.
