DAY, SEP rp Price Control Off Starts Run on Stores Announcements broadcast on the radio and reported in the press that price controls on 75 per cent of previously con- trolled commodities and ser- vices had been lifted started 4 buying spree in particularly for such staple goods as Hour, During Monday morning and the early part of the afternoon, local merchants continued to sell flour at the old price of 3.05 per hundred- weight, and many people were able to stock up on their supply of this commodity. However, official notification of the price increase was received by wire about 4 p.m. and those who had not acted promptly were out of luck. The new price, around 5.25 per hundredweight, went into effect immediately. It is not known what further in- creases will take place, but it is felt bere that they can be ex- pected. Ceilings are being maintained on some commodities like meat, sugar, fats, basic iron and steel prodnuets, rent and eviction con- trols. In spite of retention of controla on the price of meats and fats, it is expected that they will be scarce at any price because of the packers strike. Practically all clothing and honsehold textiles, farm mach- inery, tires and tubes, barbed wire, binder twine, feeds and feed products, fertilizer and shoe Jeather have been decon- trolled, which will probably make supplies more plentiful. Interviewed by the News, W. Cameron, local baker, said he) would not raise the price of bread here until he received word from the Master Bakers Association.
