Herron came to west with North West Mounted Police in 1874. He served four years, then married in Ontario and returned to a ranch near Pincher Creek. Manager of the Stewart Ranch, 1882 to 1885, then established his own ranch. Elected as a Member of Parliament for Macleod riding in 1904 and again in 1907. He died in Pincher Creek in 1936.
