Areas south of us are reporting combining is going on where crops had not been completed. In Florida the oranges are freezing. A very abnormal winter all from 197 dog licenses. Under the snow and ice b Maw there were five warnings issued and an additional four complaints investigated. Three hundred and two business licenses were issued for a revenue of 9,865.00. during i980. Throughout the summer 48 wateting. tickets were also issued. At the end of 1980 the Enforcement Officers veh- icle s odometer read 9,087 km. Man charged with murder after ee Thirty-four year old Peter J. Bergen of Golden, BC is in custody after a stabbing incident in the Alberta Hotel, in Granum, January 9, 1981. In stable condition in Leth- bridge hospital recovering from stab wounds is 33-year- old, Granum resident, Mr. Alan Finkenhagen: Bergen has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon danger- ous to the public peace. He appeared in Fort Macleod court January 12, 1981 and was Z Rezoning approved A five acre parcel of land south of the Agriplex has been approved for rezoning. The rezoning will allow Mr. Lloyd Beatty to construct four plexes on the west acre while a motel * may be planned for the east acre of land. The portion in between: will be zoned for light industrial and will possibly house three different estab- lishments once the entire pro- ject is completed. Council was unanimous in their approval of the project for the taxpayer. With Provincial and Federal Government restraints it has made the municipal budget difficult to balance. The RCMP cost sharing with the Federal government has been scrapped and this will cost the town about 90,000 more out of revenue. Mayor Mackin ghd council hope to do some trimming to the budget but increase some cent. in. Lethbridge city court January 14, 1981 for a show/ cause hearing. The Family Allowanc s Act provides for annual escalation of payments in January of each year in accordance with the increase in the cost of living. Effective in January, the federal government Fam- ily Allownaces paid monthly for children under 18 will rise to 23.96 from 21.80 in most provinces and in the territor- ies. In addition, the refundable Child Tax Credit will provide up to 238.00 per child per. year based on family income. The amount and method of payment of Family Allowance varies in Quebec and Alberta. Under a provision in the Family Allowance Act, a - Family provincial government may ask the federal government to vary the rates payable in that province according to the age or number of children: in a family, or both, providing the payments average 23.96. Quebec and Alberta have again chosen this option. Special Allowances, which are paid to foster parents, welfare agencies, government departments and institutions maintaining children, will increase to 33.53 from 30.51. Each month during 1980 the federal government paid out more than 151 million in Allowances to 3.6 million families. The cheques covered 6.9 million children. The national average lowance for each recipient family was about 42 monthly. Ws esc. At a cost of approximately 10,000 to local taxpayers some councillors feel an extremely inadequate job of adding additional rip rap to the burm comers of the new lagoon has been done. One Councillor stated the rip rap was to be crushed rock compacted into the corners not a pile of boulders dumped there. The above shown example is similar (not necessarily worse) to the majority of burm . across North America. Community Centre loan paid Councillor Stoklosa moved the town pay off the 111,700 debt at the Community Centre. At the present time we ar paying the interest on the loan * and would be better off to pay off the loan with a portion of the debt reduction grart we ived from the provincial government said Stoktosa. The motion to pay off the loan received unanimous approval. Mayor Mackin felt the debt reduction money should be used for the betterment of all citizens and this certainly was a good way to use it. There is approximately 160,000 left in the fund. The town has given over 250,000 towards the centre plus the land. The remaining monies of approxi ly 70,000 has been made up with donations and the MD grant. More work still needs to be done 'and the Community Centre will still need volunteer labour and donations if we wish to see the hall completed.
