First permanent settler in Beiseker. Back row L-R: Peter Schmaltz; Frances Schmaltz; Mary Schmaltz. Front row L-R: Ludwig Schmaltz; Julianna Schmaltz; Mike Schmaltz. Ludwig was born in the Ukraine in1868 and emigrated to North Dakota in 1892. He farmed there prior to settling in Beiseker in 1907. They lived in Number One Colonization House until their house was ready. Sunday services were held at their home.
