Very Reverend Ladislaus Slapa was born in Wieprz, Poland in 1907. He was an ordained priest for the diocese of Krakow in 1934. Most of his priestly life was spent as a military chaplain in the Polish army, of which he was named senior chaplain in 1944. After the war he took charge of the Polish Catholics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but his health declined and he came to Calgary in October, 1956.
