THUR’ DAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1960 — THE OLDS GAZETTE — 4; HIRO CTR Oe ot SORE Letter To Editor Dear Sir: Reading your report on the Arnual Meeting, I notice that the Niunicipal Inspector reported that the Town was spending too much monzy. On the other hand, it seems ‘2 be the policy of the gov't. to enccurage spending. It has long been the aim of the Education Dep2r’ment to consolidate rural . The cost of this shows up r e Financial Report of the Di- ion. To take care of Olds’ share * the $120.000 deficit would mean another 7% mills. Another department offers us some $35,000 if we spend about 50,000 on paving. Some of this will be recovered by an Improve- mont Tax. By the original plan, on a 70-30 basis, my frontage tax was $110 per year for years. It would take about $100 of as- put to do my side of ithe road. I figure I am on the wrong end cf the deal. I doubt whether you xis) get much out of the C.P.R. SED HAMMERMILLS LEFT ed A FIW I voted for the rink as a duty to the community, not that it would be of any bénefit to me. The rink will serve a wide cross section of the town. I think the Recreation Board miss:d the Rink ‘the most. tt curtailed many activities of the younger set. Regarding the Recreation Grant of $22,000, 2 swimming pool would be very nice, but it would be a further charge on our mill rate. In the light of the Inspector’s Report, I think the taxpayers siould gat a break. To prevent the general revenue from being encroached upon, and perhaps fur- ther d:mands made upon the ttax- pzyer, I think most of this fund should go towards the rink. I am t asking for enlargement or , just essentials to put the rink in working shape. Regarding Councillor Bird’s re- volving fund, if it means every time it gets around to me, I have to chip in, I am against it. I want something I oan dip into and take scmething out. 0 oC. I think with the export of gas, the government will be able to give us a much better deal, if we wuit. Then there is the proposal to divide up taxes secured from hese gas and oil processing s'that are springing wp. Cheap giz is also attracting many indus- tries — the Pulp and Paper Mill ‘at Rocky for instance. SALES LTD.
