In January, 1955, heavy snow slides from the rim of Glacier Creel Bowl wiped out three towers and damaged others in Kemano-Kitimat transmission line. The solution was to eliminate all towers for a span of about 7,000 feet by lifting this section of both transmission lines by a cross-catenary system of steel cables, suspended from anchors high on the mountains. 3 inch suspension ropes, attached to anchors high up the mountain, were laid out across the valley waiting final pull to closure at north-east anchors. Cat walk materials were laid out and attached to ropes as they were raised clear of the ground. Main suspension clamps were in place and twelve foot sections of aluminum grating positioned prior to assembly.
