Walter Youngman, left. Born in London, he came to Canada in 1904. He first farmed and then worked as a surveyor and engineer with National Transcontinental Railway. He served in the South African War and with the 79th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force during First World War. Youngman, a founding member of the Manitoba Association of Professional Engineers, was chief engineer in charge of highway maintenance and construction. In the 1950's he was called out of retirement to be supervising engineer on the Trans-Canada highway.
