Two separate images published in the Calgary Herald, March 15, 1974. a) The Wales Hotel, located at 709 - 2nd Street SW, did not fall according to the plan laid out by experts. It shattered windows and landed on power lines. b) 200 pounds of explosives were used by experts to demolish the Wales Hotel. The 43 year old building came down slightly off of its intended target, and debris was scattered into the intersection of 7th Avenue and 2nd Street SW. Windows at the Royal Bank nearby were smashed too. Note onlookers well back, observing as a dust cloud rises.
