In 1883, he came to Canada, living in Toronto until 1885. He homesteaded at Wallace, Saskatchewan. In 1894, he and his family moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan. He worked there as a deputy sheriff and deputy clerk of the court, and in 1907, was the local registrar of the Supreme Court of Saskatchewan.
