Captain Walter Youngman enroute to England.
Officer in the 79th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, which was organized in Brandon, Manitoba. A native of England, Youngman moved to Canada in 1904. He first farmed and then worked as a surveyor and engineer with the National Transcontinental Railway. He served in both the South African War and in First World War. Youngman was later an engineering official with the Manitoba government and founding member of the Manitoba Association of Professional Engineers. In the 1950's, he was called out of retirement to supervise construction of the Trans-Canada highway.
