Van Horne decided to have summer tracks laid along the outside of the long sheds on the descent from the Rogers Pass to the foot of the Illecillewaet Glacier. Trains would use the outer tracks in summer, but would be diverted to safety inside the sheds when winter season came. Snow shed.
