George Emerson, High River, Alberta.
Born in Danville, Quebec. He homesteaded in town and later moved to Alberta, working as a Hudson's Bay Company freighter. When the North West Mounted Police established Fort Calgary in 1875, Emerson freighted material and supplies from Fort Edmonton for construction of the new post. In 1879, along with Tom Lynch, he ranched on the north side of the Highwood river. Four years later, they moved their ranch west to the middle fork of the river.
