Rose attended the complimentary dinner at the Paliser Hotel on Friday night, in honor of the Palmer rink of Calgary, recent winners of the McDonald-Brier tankard at Toronto, emblematic of the curling championship of Canada, Over 200 curlers from all parts of the pro- vince were in attendance. It was a great banquet with plenty to eat and lots to drink. RED SHIELD AUXILIARY | out of the ground. | * * . Stock home. He plans. on building a modern home, and work will commence as soon as the frost is *. * . We have been informed that car and truck license plates will not be avail- able as early as last year, owing to war conditions. In the meantime car owners will operate their vehicles on the 1940 plates. The new plates are white with black figures and will be available at the office of the Police Magistrate as in other years. ** * DOING SPLENDID WORK Albert E. Prosser, aged 50, passed away in a Calgary hospital on Sun- day last, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Prosser was a resident of Olds for nearly two years, operating the Pre- mier Meat Market. He disposed of the business last June and moved to Cal- gary where he resided until his death. * * *. *. * * The Salvation Army Red Shield Wo- men's Auxiliary, under the able leader- ship of Mrs. Bamibrick ana Mrs. Thom- son, has been turning out comforts for the Canadian forces and refugees in Britain, at top speed. Since the first of January, there have been three ship- ments of goods consisting of 103 pairs of socks; 45 pairs of mitts; 19 sweat- ers; 20 helmets; 7 scarves; 17 multi- wraps; 3 quilts. and 50 articles of clo- thing for. refugees. “We wish to express our appreciation forthe splendid work done by the other groups who are working in con- junction with the local auxiliary, and who have been responsible for a large portion of the above mentioned goods. These are the Olds Baptist Group, the ‘Bechton and Hammer Group and the Garrington and White Creek Group. ‘We extend an invitation to any ladies interested in, this work, to attend the Red Shield meetings in the Salvation Army Hall every second Friday at 3.00 o'clock. The next meeting willbe on Friday, March 28th. Mrs. Fred Jenner had a novel mili- tary bridge last week, carried out in the St. Patrick’s day. motif. At Lethbridge on Tuesday evening, Trail “Smoke Eaters” defeated Leth- bridge Maple Leafs 3-1 in the second game of the interprovincial series. the first game ending in a 0-0 draw. The third game will be played at Calgary tonight (Thursay). * * * * . * With the completion of the Alberta Pool elevator annex which will have a capacity of 45,000 bushels, Olds will then have a. total storage capacity of 553,000 bushels. At the present time there are 450,000 bushels in store in the local elevators. Most of this grain is wheat with a few thousand bushels of coarse grains. * * * *. . * As a result of the mild spell last in various parts of the town. . John Jensen, the town handy-man, secured’ a small steam boiler and with a hose attachment was able to thaw out. sev- eral culverts that were frozeir solid.
