And they are costing the packing in- dustry another 2 million in lost time, devalued hides and devalued carcasses. It is for this reason that warble inspections are being continued again this spring in all cattle markets and terminal stockyards as part of the province s total warble infestation monitor- ing system. Alberta Agriculture s livestock pest specialist, Dr. Ali Khan, reminds cattlemen that the Agricul- tural Pest Act requires *. every cattle producer in Alberta to take the neces- sary measures to destroy all warble grubs in their cattle every year to prevent rein- festation of their herds. He says that all counties, municipal districts, im- provement districts and special areas in the prov- ince are officially warble control areas. And agricul- tural service board field- men and their appointed inspectors will be visiting farms that have a history of warble infestations during March and April to advise and help their owners to organize a better warble control program. The monitoring of warble infested carcasses will also continue at packing plants iso that sources of infested cattle can be identified.
