These loan author- izations represent the highest figure to date for the 1982-83 fiscal year and more than one-third the total amount authorized in the 1981-82 fiscal year. Service industries re- ceived the majority of financing, 19 loans, compared to four for B.C. firm wins Bowden jail contract A British Columbia firm has been awarded a contract by Correc- tions Canada to build a trailer complex for the medium-security federal penitentiary near here. Britco Structures Ltd. will install 15 trailers to house 40 inmates by May 1, said David Taft, company director of operations said in an interview from Langley B.C. The contract is worth about 250,000. The trailers will also have washrooms, ac- tivity areas and ad- ministration offices. We are planning to bring in trailers for communications, said Monday. The trailers are a stop- gap until three per- manent 80-man units are built, Work on the first permanent. unit should begin next July, with completion next November said Ken Hickford, assistant warden in charge of technical services. The second unit is expected to open in January, 1985; schedule for the third unit yet. there is no finished in January, 1984, Mr. Hickford said. The plan also calls for a prison farm to give inmates work and to feed prisoners in Alber- ta and British Colum bia. Mr. Hickford said the need for the prison farm is fairly well established but no date will be set for a construction start until Corrections Canada completes a study on the kind of farm The work is part of a needed. 40-million prison tt and ex- pansion plan.
