Badlands of Red Deer river valley, Steveville area, Alberta.
The strange land formations of the badlands frame an opening into a wide plain along the bank of the Red Deer River. Note the band of trees which are probably in a coulee or stream bed. There are a few buildings on the plain, possibly a ranch headquarters, see centre of photo. Ranching was the major activity along the Red Deer before the area north of it was opened for homesteading in 1909.
