Thursday, November 26 7:30 p.m. Calgary Royals Friday, November 27 - 8:00 p.m. Calgary Canucks Wednesday, December 2-7:30 p.m. Calgary Canucks first game the girls were pretty even, the score changing back and forth, but the final score ended with Bowview in the lead 10- 6. The Olds goal scoreres for this game were Shawna Leatherdale - one goal, one assist; Carla McDonald - one goal; Nikki Scholer - two goals; KeUy Thompson with two goals and two assists; Tammy Niemeyer - two assists, and Nadine a key - one assist. The rest of the team played very well. especially Teri Turner, our goalie. Good work After a 10 minute break the girls went at it again. Only this time it was a little slower. The score was 9-4 for Bowview. The Olds goal scorers were: Kelly Thompson - two goals, Kim Frere - one goal, and Jennifer Prestwich - one goal. The assists were by Nikki Scholer - gt; two, and Kim Adair - one. Good game Bantam news Thursday, November 19, Olds Chiefs headed to Lacombe to play a league game against the Lacombe Wings. The Wings had the Olds Chiefs down 2-0 after the first period, then Olds fought back in the second and tied it up, but with .05 left on the clock Lacombe again took the lead. Scoring the Chiefs' goals were Brian Ellis and Reid Lansing with Terry Thorpe, Robbie Clarke and Justin Empey assisting. Olds then came out strong in the third period and scored four more goals to the Wings one, ending the game with a 6-4 score for the Chiefs. Tom Coolen, Terry Thorpe, Robbie Clarke and Jeff Schwieger all scored for Olds in the third while assists went to Reid Lansing, Ryan Berg, Robbie Clarke, Jeff Schwieger, Justin Empey and Lonnie Herbert. Notley and Richards were presented with plaques commemorating the occasion two weeks ago. ocal sport development program recipients Alberta Sport Council funds are derived from Alberta Lotteries, the private and the corporate sector which are used by local sport groups in innovative and productive ways. In a continuing effort to promote and fund amateur sport in this province, the Alberta Sport Council announced that 23,968.00 has been awarded to 12 groups in Big Country - Zone 2. This money represents funding to applications from- the 1992 third quarter of the Local Sport Development Projects Grant. Zone 2 is bounded by Olds/Trochu in the north. High River/Gleichen in the south, Banff/Lake Louise in the west and Oyen/Acadia Valley in the east. The funding will be used in a wide variety of innovative ways to assist in the development of local sport groups. Each of these groups went through an application and review process before funding was offered. Whenever a group wishes financial assistance for project related to sport development. all they need to do is contact the Alberta Sport Council office in Olds at 556-4302 and ask for an application form. The following projects received financial assistance in Big Country Zone 2 in our area: - Sundre - Sundre Sgdrfm sqojfiff hv Mt'iian Brown We have lots of events on the agenda for this last month before Christmas holidays. There are groups . working towards the airband contest scheduled for the end of the month and the committee running around setting up for the Christmas dance. Student council is anticipating a large turnout for this dance. Boys basketball teams from all over central Alberta will be attending this dance. The senior boys basketball team is hosting a tournie the weekend of Dec. 4 5. Visiting teams stay- over here in Olds so they will be guests at our Christmas dance. The JV basketball teams held their first tryouts/practices last week. Good luck in your first games Practices are in Deer Meadow School. Junior High in- Gymnastics Club 4,348.00 - provide funding for equipment. Sundre - Sundre Figure Skating Club - 750.00 - purchase and installation of a jump harness for training purpose. Ringette Headhunters Olds Headhunters played Airdrie on November 12. Points were scored by Nikki Scholer - two goals. 2 assists; Kelly Thompson eight goals, one assist: Tammy Niemeyer - two goals and four assists: Jennifer Prestwich - two assists; Brandy Gardner - three assists and Kim Adair - four assists, and Shawna Leatherdale - one assist. Nadine Ahey played a great game as well as Carla McDonald in net. The final score was 12- 7. Good game girls Olds Tweens On Saturday, November 14 the Innisfail Juniors travelled to Olds for a tight game against the Olds Head- hunters. The final score ended up being tied at 10. The Olds girls worked hard to tie it up with 16 seconds remaining. The goal scorers were Tara Curniski with two goals and two assists: Nikki Scholer - one goal: Kelly Thompson with seven goals and two assists: Tammy Niemeyer. Brandy Gardner. Nadine a key and Kari Jacobsen came out of the game with one assist each: Jennifer Prestwich came out wit h two assists. Excellent game girls On Sunday. the Bowview team travelled to Olds for two back-to-back games against the girls. Teams are made up of home rooms in Grades 8 and 9 and these noon hour competitions will continue into the spring. The sports will change every two weeks. An RCMP officer has been coming to visit the high school once a month at noon hours. He is coming to give talks on specific issues and to give high school students the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. November's topic was Impaired Driving' and on Dec. 9. the topic will be Teen Violence.' Everv student has been encouraged to participate. The Grade 12's are having Grad pictures taken this week.
