He also came up with a silver medal in the Kl junior men's slalom, and split a silver medal with Lacombe's C. Neal in the C2 slalom event. Vanmourik won gold in the junior women's downriver race, with her result putting her on top of the day for all women in the event. She also copped a gold in the women's open class in the Kl slalom event. Jacqueline McAllister was another Sundre double medalist at the meet, finishing third in the junior women's downriver race, and first in the junior women's Kl slalom. Kevin Seidel and Brad Bouchard were the other multiple medal winners, with Seidel picking up a bronze in the junior men's Kl slalom, and Bouchard a bronze in the Cl junior men's slalom. Seidel and Bouchard teamed up to win the force gold in the C2 open class in the downriver race, and a bronze in the C2 junior slalom event. The city of Edmonton proved to be dominant at the meet though, with paddlers from the city combining for 21 medals at the provincials, including 10 gold, two silver and seven bronze finishes. .Alberta coaches and officials symposium For the past five years the Alberta Sport Council has co- sponsored a provincial coaching conference, but this year, for the first time, it will include officials. The Alberta Coaches and Officials Symposium, to be held October 15 to 17 at Calgary's Hospitality Inn, will be an impressive trendsetter. The theme is Together We Make The Difference and 150 of this province's best coaches and officials are expected to attend. In addition to two days of session presentations from some of the leading experts in their fields, the opening keynote speaker will be Debbie Muir, who over a period of 12 years had been the most outstanding synchronized swimming coach in the world. At the awards banquet, where four coaches and four officials will be recognized for their successful and outstanding achievements, the speaker will be Dr. Sergei Pavlov, Chairman for Physical Sport in Lithuania. Finally, the closing address will be given by Mark Tewksbury. gold and bronze medal winner in swimming at the 1992 Olympic Summer Games. A few of the symposium topics to be discussed will include: nutrition for high performance athletes, error detection and correction in sports skills, as well as physical fitness and psychological preparation for officials. Quality and consistency of performance of Alberta's athletes is to a large extent dependent on the skills of a coach to guide and nurture them. These coaching skills can be taught and/or enhanced by providing knowledge through coaching education. Officials, meanwhile, play a major role in providing the environment in The Gazette experience an athlete haa in sport. These are the reasons why this symposium, c sponsored by the Alberta Sport Council and Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation, is so important. For more information about the Alberta Coaches and Officials Symposium and/or the Ablerta Sport Council, please contact Dave Turnbull, Zone 2 Coordinator in the Olds office at 556-4302. Down where palm trees sway and sugar cane is still cut by hand, every drop of Bacardi amber rum has its beginnings. Just as it was in 1862, molasses made from pure sugar cane is first fermented and distilled. Then it is aged in oak barrels, and expertly blended to attain that smooth, full flavour that could only be Bacardi amber rum. BACARDI AMBER RUM Enjoy the taste of an original
