Wednesday, November 6, 1991 County council reaffirmed for 1991. (Back, L-R): Councillors Dave Derksen, Ken Turnbull, Mel Richards. Ben Penner, Don Molesky and Diane Davies. Front, (L-R): Council secretary Lil Davis, County reeve John Grimstead, County commissioner Herman Epp, assistant commissioner Tony Martens. Derksen new board chairman I hope you realize there will be a different style of leadership from the chair, he told board members, adding that he appreciated the leadership of Oke, and has no intentions of filling anyone's shoes. He has left his mark on the leadership, and I intend to leave my own, Derksen concluded. Oke said the change did come as a bit of a surprise. I have never, in the ten years I have been on the board, been involved in the politics that discusses who is going to vote for whom ahead of time. So one never knows till one gets there, he said. Oke added he has no reservations about supporting the board's decision. Certainly he and I are friends, and we've known each other for a ibng time. ff'Dave will give g*o3: leadership, and I'll do my best to support him,'' he added. Oke indicated he would not seek reelection in 1992, allowing him to fill the position of academic dean of the newly established Rocky Mountain College in Calgary. He said accepting the position will necessitate a move to Calgary. Visibilities of less than 1 kilometre in snow and/or blowing snow with a wind chill of 1600 or more. Heavy Snowfall: At least 10 cm of snow in 24 hours. Chinook: Chinooks occur when air is forced down the leeward side of the Rockies. As it descends, it warms, and the strong winds from high up in the atmosphere are carried downwards. The resulting mild, dry, and gusty winds are very familiar to southern Albertans, but can also be experienced in the west central part of the Page 3 province. Blowing snow: Snow which has been lifted from the ground by the wind to a height of 2 metres or more. Drifting snow remains very close to the ground. Blowing snow gets high enough to reduce visibility. Flurries: The winter equivalent of showers ... spotty or patchy areas of snow, which can be expected to start and stop several times in a given period. Cold Front: A boundary between two different types of air. Some cold fronts bring remarkable changes in temperature. For example an approaching cold front might be the onset of bitterly cold northerly winds, and maybe a blizzard.
