Page 10 The Gazette Wednesday, October 30, 1991 UPCOMING HOME GAMES Friday, Nov. 1 - 8:00 p.m. Against Ft. Saskatchewan Traders Saturday, Nov. 2 - 8:00 p.m. Against Lloydminster Blazers Wednesday, Nov. 6 - 7:30 p.m. Against Calgary Royals Grizzlys maintain second The Grizzlys started last week with a win at home against the Calgary Canucks, and split two games on the road against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, which keeps them in second place in the AJHL. The team's record sits at 11 wins, two losses and one shoot out loss, to leave them with 23 points. That makes them five points better than the 9 win 5 loss Calgary Canucks, and one point behind the 12 win 4 loss Calgary Royals, which to date, is a position that Grizzly brass is happy about. We're obviously doing quite well. A record of eleven, two and one speaks for itself, Coach Chris Stewart said. Development of our team program is progressing quite well, and that's more what you're looking for at this time of year, he added, and repeating that leadership is the key to this year's success for the team. At home Wednesday night, the Grizzlys lead the way to a 3-2 win over the third place Calgary Canucks. Eric Fulton scored the first goal of the game at 5:43 of the first period, assisted by Mark Wobick. Reo Lajeunesse added the winner for the Grizzlys at 1:38 of the second, on a play from Wobick and Fulton. The Canucks' Ryan Slemko put in their only goal of the night, on a power play set up from Reid Simonton and Eric Hill, at 3:38 of the second. At 16:23 of the third, Wobick put the puck by Canuck goaltender Brad Heric, as a little bit of insurance for the closing minutes. Wobick topped all scoring, with a goal and two assists in the affair. On Saturday night, the Grizzlys got off the bus after the long drive to Fort McMurray to beat the Oil Barons 6-4. Oil Baron Miro Ludeman opened the scoring for the home team, on an unassisted marker at 4:45 of the opening period. Dean Rambo returned fire for the Grizzlys at the eight minute mark, with a goal on a scoring play by Blair Kambeitz and Reo Lajeunesse. However that effort was cancelled out on a goal by the Barons' Chris Bannerholt, and set up by T.J. Bahniuk and Tony Frenette, ten seconds later. Aaron Zimmel tied the game again later in the first period, with an unassisted marker. Mark Wobick put the team ahead with a goal late in the first, with assists going to Gary Lebsack and Curtis Sheptak. The Grizzlys shut out the Barons in the second, and added another pair for themselves. Eric Fulton picked up a goal at the midway point of the period, with assists going to Kambeitz and Jason Mansoff. Lajeunesse picked up what turned out to be the winner, at 17:46 of the second, assisted by Kambeitz and Fulton. The Barons came back with a pair of goals in the third period, one by Darryl Romano, another by RusseU Sharp, both unassisted, but the effort was not enough. Tyler Graham added one more marker late in the third to close out scoring for the Grizzlys. Sunday was a different game though, and the Grizzlys couldn't manage a second win on the road, dropping a 5-3 decision to the Oil Barons. Curtis Sheptak started all scoring at the midway point of the first, with a goal on a set up by Geoff Liska. The rjarons followed up to tie the score seven minutes later, with a goal by Terence Oliver, assisted by Chris Lafrenniere and Russell Sharp. The teams matched scoring in the second period with a pair of goals apiece. Lafrenniere added a goal to his points total at 4:15 of the second for the Barons, but the Grizzlys answered with two quick goals, by Lajeunesse and Mark Ashlee. The Barons' Brad MacQuarrie put one by Larry Moberg at the 19 minute mark to tie the game. Chad Malanowich scored at the 17 minute mark of the third period to put the Barons on top, and Lafrenniere put away an insurance marker in the closing seconds. But in the final minute of the game, frustration got the bet- Grizzly GAA report During November we play 12 games, 8 of them at home. FoUowing the Fort McMurray trip, the Grizzlys wiU now need to focus on winning a high percentage of these home games to enable the team to stay close to the top of the league. Monday morning we are 11-2-1 for a total of 23 points - 1 point behind the Calgary Royals - however the Grizzlys have 2 games in hand. Darcy Dallas didn't make the trip to Fort McMurray as he became sick Friday evening and was too sick to go North. We know Darcy it wasn't the Fort McMurray flu. We expect him back in the line-up for Wednesdays game in Calgary. Rob Adams became sick during the weekend and missed Sundays game. Second year veteran. Jade Kersey has gone to B.C. to finish out the season. A 17-year-old Jade and the Grizzlys management had agreed upon some expectations for him this year. When it became obvious he wasn't going to meet those agreed upon expectations then we eventually agreed that we would help him play elsewhere. Head coach Chris Stewart arranged for him to have a choice of several teams in B.C. See you at the rink (Complex) Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. for two exciting games.
