WI Woik-tn It seems that over the past several months I haven't been able to get this article tp the papers as frequently as I would like to. I don't know whether to place the blame on the fact that I've been very busy or to the fact that I may have poor organizational skills. I think it's probably a little of both This week I'd like to touch on a little bit of the past and a bit of the future. This past summer we ran our annual Police Torch Relay for the Special Olympics. We would like to thank the local citizens and businesses for their donations. The two largest contributors to the cause were the Olds and District Legion who donated* 500.00 and the Otds Lions Club whaudftfcatod the proceeds fta Mjfei'J/in- nual Easter Bunny sales. The Lions have promised the proceeds from their taster Bunny sales on a yearly basis and that is very much appreciated as were all the donations. The total collected this year was in the range of 1,700.00. On the 9th of October, 1990 at 7:00 p.m. the Olds RCMP will be hosting an Olds and District Security Seminar. The seminar will be taking place at the Olds Legion board room. The seminar is designed to help local businessmen to effectively increase security and help reduce loss through crime. Guest speakers are planned with expertise in the areas of alarms, lighting, insurance and design. The seminar is open to all businessmen from Olds and surrounding area and is free of charge. If you have any questions regarding this seminar either contact myself or Cpl. Skappak at the Olds Detachment. hours: Olds Sports Complex, Olds. Complaint of theft from motor vehicle. What was unusual was the fact that on two occasions I was in the advance par ty that was sent in to clean up the site, to build lean-tos, erect tents and repair the cook-house. At the United Church site, our group had worked for about three days cleaning out underbrush and getting things ship-shape for those to follow. One stormy morning we were all huddled around the cook stove in the cook-house when we heard the sounds of an approaching boat. On tt board was the minister, some of the elders of the church and a few older Sunday School members who would spend the summer at the camp as supervisors. Naturally the adults wanted some steaming hot coffee. Our group obliged by putting on a huge copper boiler filled with water and coffee. Before the coffee was reedy, a gust of wind Mew my brother's hat off his head right into that boiler of coffee. The hat was retrieved and the coffee was served. All expressed their gratitude for the hot coffee but little did they know that Dick's hat shrank three sizes and never did fit his head again. It's probably still in the bush at that church camp site. OIHMIE gt;IT gt;I gt;I gt;IERS i340sT, s Parkland area.
