Mens Volleyball Cham- pionship and the right to represent Alberta at the 4-West Championships thts weekend at Red Deer Cellege. This is the first time Olds has won the A.C.A.C. mens volleyball cHampionship. Defeating Mount Royal College in the finals was particularly gratifying for Olds after having lost in the finals to Mount Royal twice in the past 3 years. ' Red Deer College Kings were beaten by Olds 3 games to 2 in semi-final play while Mount Royal “won 3 games to 2 over defending champions from N.A.1I.T. The conso- __lation_final_also_went_5 games with N.A.I.T. com- ing -out victorious over Red Deer. A large partisan crowd was present in the Olds College gymnasium for the finals. Olds won the first game 15 - 10 but then dropped the second game by the same score. The Broncos regained the ad- skate board track | proposed A group of very enthus- iastic youngsters are busy preparing the groundwork to- instal a skateboard track in the Olds Arena. For $500.00 the young- stéers believe they can instal ramps and other features of a skateboard track. The arena, they feel, could be available for skateboard enthusiasts immediately after the ice is taken out. Laurie Saby and Cory Yoder told the Gazette that the use of the arena for this purpose would give young people a safe place to play away from the traffic hazard but would afford many hours of healthy recreation dur- ing the summmer_ holi- days. The young people are raising the $500.00 need- ed to get the program underway. © sate Dis Notice of Development Notice is hereby given that the Olds Planning Commission has authorized the issuance of the following permits: 27-78 Rumpus Room Pt. Innisfail wins playoff series Innisfail Eagles swabbed a sloppy 4 - 2 Victory over the Didsbury Ramblers to advance into the next round of intermediate “D" playoffs. The game, played in the Innisfail Arena, saw Ron Waugh score the opening goal, on an assist from Kim Weinkaut and _play- ing coach John MacPhee _at the nine second mark ot the game, for the Eagles. Eagles took § the total goal two game series over Didsbury by a 10 - 5count. Both teams were pushed _out of the ‘‘C’’ provincial playoffs by Canmore. ~ The first 20 minutes of the game had about the same life and interest as watching a group of tired people dancing to the waltz music of Lawrence | Welk. The second period was so slow and dull that many fans thought the time clock had stopped. However, we imagine that the game was a mite more exciting than being hit In the face with a dirty, wet floor mop. Miller McCoy, the old boy of the league, and less than a half a dozen players striv- ed unsuccessfully to give the game some life and action. An irate fan, as the debris and the arguments were settling a late third period fight, made an aeroplane out of his pro- gram and launched it to hit the backside of a player. : Fortunately, three stars of the game are never named at Chinook League Games in the Innisfail Arena.
