oS aS SS tiny mites win _at Three Hills Olds Tiny Mites eked out a narrow 7 - 6 win over Three Hills Saturday in Three Hills. Jacy Fullerton notched what proved to be the winning goal with 2:47 remaining in the third period. Olds trailed 3 - 2 at the end of the first period and were ahead 6 - 4 at the end of the second. Three Hills tied the game with 3:01 remaining and then Fullerton got his unassisted winning goal. Other goal scorers for the locals were John Nelson from B. Blain; Brett Muzychka from B. Blain; A Fraser, unassisted; Scott Leatherdale from Shawn Lynch; Jacy Fullerton from Gary Smith and Shawn Lynch from Scott ~ Leatherdale. Tiny Mite C January 27 In Sundre the Olds No- mads came out on top 6 to 0 after a hard-hitting game against the Olds Hornets. C. Petersen scored unassisted to start the scoring at 12:03 of the first. period. T. Janzen came on strong scoring a hat trick, K. Bartholow scored a single and as- sisted on 2. E. Olsen picked up 1 goal, A. Taylor, J..O’Rourke and G. Harper picked up 1 assist each. The Nomads picked up all 5 penalties. February 1 The Olds Nomads tra- *‘velled to Bowden to play their make-up game from sports corner unassisted leaving the score 4 to 2 at the end of the second. Olds came out strong in the third with A. Taylor assisting a goal from K. Bartholow but 2 minutes later, Bowden came back scoring, leav- ing the final score 5 to 3. A. Taylor picked up 1 goal and E. Olsen had 1 assist. Bowden’s scoring was MacGonigill 3, Houchin and Ryrie shared 1 goal and 1 assist each, Soren- sen assisted on one. It was Bowden’s goalie that kept them in the game. Penalties were Olds 4 and Bowden 3. February 3 The Olds Nomads came up with one of their best played games outscoring Bowden #2 8 to 4. Olds scored 3 in the first, 1 in the second and 4 in the third period, while Bow- den scored 2 in the first, 1 in the second and 1 in the third. Olds had to win with a 3 goal lead to remain in first place. Top points went to Janzen who picked up 4 goals, Barth- olow had 2 goals and assisted on 2, while Tay- lor scored 2 and assisted on one. Petersen, Olsen and O’Rourke each got an assist. Top scorer for Bow- den was Houchin with 2 goals and Ryrie and Mac- Gonigill with 1 goal and 1 assist each. Turnquist handled the net-minding chores for Olds and For- bes for Bowden. Penalties were Olds 2. Bantam C’s Olds 8, Innisfail 2 The Bantam C’s had PON a 66 e e 6006 another win on January 20 against Innisfail with a score of 8 to 2. Kelly Smith was the top goal scorer with 4 goals and 1 assist to pick up a total of 5 points, Greg Alwast got 2 goals for a total of 2 points, Ricky Sissons got 1 goal and 2 assists for a total of 3 points and Murray Mo- man also got 1 goal and 2 assists for a 3 point total. Picking up assists were Scott Dungate and Steve Warne with 2 points each and Steen Pederson picked up one point. Penalties were Olds 4 and Innisfail 3. Olds 4, Innisfail 1 Olds came through with another victory against Innisfail on January 22 with a score of 4 to 1. Top goal-scoring was by Ricky Sissons with 2 goals for a 2 point total. Greg Alwast got 1 for 1 point and Roger Villemaire 1 for aone point total. Picking up assists were Murray Moman, Brad Lutz, Randy Lindstrome, Steen Pederson, Pat O’- Rourke and Kelly Smith all for one point each. Penalties were Olds 6 and Innisfail 7. Greg Whitney had the misfortune of being side- lined with a broken leg while playing in Caroline and hopes to be back before the end of the season. He would also like to thank the coach, man- agement and his team- mates for their sincerity at this time. Bantam C Tournament Olds played in the Ex- ville Bantam C tourna- ment on Saturday and Sunday January 27 and 28. They won their first game against Calgary by a score of 3 to 0. Murray Moman scored 2 goals one unassisted, the other one was assisted by Ricky Sissons. Scott Dun- gate got the third goal assisted by Greg Alwast and Darcy Schmautz.. It was a real good all-round game. They lost their second game to Caroline by a score of 5 to 1. Murray Moman_ scored their only goal in that game. ° They enjoyed the tourna- ment and Murray Moman received the trophy for the best over-all defenceman. The goalie on the Cal- gary team won the trophy for best over-all goal- tender and one of the Caroline players won the trophy for the over- all forward. Exville stayed on top to win the tournament. Olds 6, Evergreen 4 The Olds Bantam C’s played an exhibition game against Evergreen on Tuesday, January 30 and won by ascore of 6 to 4. Steve Warne scored the first goal assisted by Steen Pederson, the se- cond goal went to Greg Alwast assisted by Scott Dungate. Ricky Sissons picked up the third one unassisted. The next two goals went to Kelly Smith with the second one as- sisted by Ricky Sissons and the final goal went to Murray. Moman assisted by Kelly Smith. Penalties were Olds 8 and Evergreen 4. Moritz lost his shutout when Lovelace of Sundre scored unassisted with only three seconds left in the game. Top points were picked up by Karpyshyn with three goals and seven assists while G. Olsen had eight goals. Bruneski and L. Olsen picked up ‘‘hat tricks’, Graham, Person and Turnbull scored doubles. Only Moritz and Graham escaped penalties for Olds with Turnbull picking up his first of the season. Most of the penalties were called in the third period. Olds scored two unan- swered goals in the first, four in the second to In- nisfall’s single and then added two in the third while Innisfail picked up the final goal. Kosik led the scoring with four goals and one assist, Karpyshyn scored two and assisted on three, L. Olsen picked up a single and two assists and Wilton and G. Olsen scored singles. Credited with assists were Person and Gardner. Midget B’s Sundre, January 27 Olds found it an easy win as they blanked Sundre 8 to 0. Lang was credited with the shut-out. Wray led the scoring with a hat trick and an assist. Curkan clicked on three for a hat trick. Also scoring for Olds were Bannerman and Asmund- son. La Flamme assisted on three goals, Rinas and Asmundson assisted on singles. Olds picked up 12 of the 19 penalties. Mcintyre of Sundre received a match penalty. Crossfield, February 2 Olds had a ten goal lead before Crossfield hit the scoreboard with two goals. Olds scored ano- ther to take the game 11 to 2 Rinas was the top point- getter for Olds with five assists. K. Miller clicked on two goals and assisted on two others. Curkan scored two and assisted on one and Bannerman and Wray scored two. .Gon- salves scored a single and assisted on one. McLean and McMillan scored sin- gles, Picking up_ single assists were La Flamme and Boyd. Penalties were - Olds - Rinas (3), McLean (2), Wray (2), Burton, K. Mil- ler and Curkan. Both teams picked up singles in the second perlod. Olds scored first in the third to make it 5 to 2 but Dids- bury wasn’t finished and they came back with three quick goals to tie it up. The game ended in a five- all tie. Olds’ goals were scored by Rinas (3), Wray and K. Miller with assists to. K. Miller (2), Rinas, Wray, Curkan and La Flamme. Olds picked up the major portion of the penalties being called for 16 while Didsbury received 6. Olds penalties were well- spread with only La Flamme, Wray and Rinas picking up doubles. college defeats Innisfail The Olds College men’s basketball team posted their third victory in four starts. after Christmas defeating the Innisfail Royals 58 - 51. The Broncos led all the way with Brent Verner collecting 24 points and Mark Kearnes netting 17. Mel Harvey was the top scorer for Innisfail with 18 points.
