Did-youever stop to realize, folks, that when you send a dollar on its way out of your community it is gone forever and can in.no way help your community. Of course. you did not think of it—the same with lots of others. On the other hand, when the dollar is spent at hotne, it is bound to have. a good effect right where it is. spent, and that good effect is bound to havea reaction that will benefit you as well as your neighbors _ It is a simple bit of truth and the wonder is that it. should be necessary for us to mention it at all —-the truth seems to be so evident. Yet it is necessary, for we all know that altogether too many of our dol- lars go out of the community for things we can buy at-home. If you don’t know it, just ask your post- master to let you have a look at the inside’ of his parcel department. You will see’ parcels piled high from mail- order houses, and thousands of miles away, addressed to your neighbors. Their good dollars have been sent away out of -your, community for these parcels; sent to concerns who have no ‘personal interest in your community, who do not pay one cent of taxes there, never contribute to a subscription list, don’t support and help keep. up schools, churches, or contribute to the upkeep of roads, etc. If your whole community went smash to-morrow it wouldn’t matter to them, because their. interests-are elsewhere. Surely-to goodness, folks, you can see the writing on the wall if you continue this practice. Then why not do the right thing by your home town merchants? Give them every chance to figure on your require- ments, whether it be for one piece of merchandise or a carload. Work for your own community and by so doing you are working for your own benefit. Make your slogan, *‘My Community First,’’ and then you will-be steering in the sure direction of success. Sample Day The Bridge and Literary Club-was entertained at-the home of Mrs. C. Hartman, Tuesday afternoon, March 15th. Though very wintry without, beautiful bouquets of daffo- dils lent a spring-like aspect to the rooms.
