Colonel William M. Herchmer, North-West Mounted Police, Battleford, Saskatchewan.
Son of Reverend William MaCaulay Herchmer of Kingston, Ontario. Became captain in the militia in Winnipeg and then joined the North-West Mounted Police. In 1881 he was in charge of the police detachment accompanying the Marquess of Lorne on his tour of the west. In 1889 appointed North-West Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner. Died suddenly in Calgary in 1900.
