March 23, 1988 Religion Obituaries Activities at Peace Lutheran MARY FAIRHURST (McCUAIG) Of Calgary, passed away at the Sarcee Auxiliary Hospital -on March 10, 1988 at the age of 81 years. She is survived by her beloved sisters, Mrs, Billy McAra of Vancouver, Mrs. Jean, Daniels of Calgary and Mrs. Violet Clancy of Stavely. She is also survived by two nephews, Dr. L.B. Daniels. of Vancouver and Murry C.M. Young of Los Angeles and two great-nephews; Paul and Brian. Predeceased by her parents, John and Jennie McCuaig of Stavely Mary was born at home on the family ranch. near Stavely. She worked for Alberta Government Telephones all her life until her r tirement except for three years. with the American Army Base at +Edmonton as a switchboard operator during the Second World War. She was a member of Alberta Government Telephones Pioneer Association. Mary was an animal lover. A Private Memorial Service was held at The Garden Chapel, Monday, March 14, 1988, Cremation with inurnment in the family plot at Stavely. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Sarcee Auxiliary Hospital, 3504 - 29 Street S.W., Calgary, AB T3E 2L3 or a charity of choice. The Garden Chapel , Funeral Home, Directors CORA ETHEL OHLER Of Stavely, passed away quietly at the Willow Creek Auxiliary Hospital on March 20, at the age of 86 years following a lengthy illne: Cora was born at Cora Creek, Montana on September 20, 1901. She came to Alberta. by covered wagon with her parents Andrew and Ellen Nelson and her brother Herbert in 1906. They settled in Happy Valley, west of Stavely In 1922, Cora married Gentry Ohler and they farmed east of Stavely until 1945 when they moved into Stavely where they resided until Cora was hospitalized six months ago. SHe was a Life Member of the Stavely Golden Age Centre, a member of Silver Leaf Rebekah Lodge, the Stavely UCW, the Historical Society and has served on the board of the Willow Creek Auxiliary. Hospital. Cora was a very loving person, she was known as Grandma to soymany. Her greatest interests were her family and her frends. She is survived by Gentry, her beloved husband of ars, her loving children, Bert (Ina), Neil (Elizabeth), Blanche (Fred Hall), Ray (Maxine), Rodger (Bev), 15 grandchildren. their spouses, 20 great grandchildren and numerous cousins in the and Sweden, Cora was predeceased by an infant son, Stewart in 1928, a brother Herbert in 1918, her father in 1957 and her mother in 1960. How every Christian can Hasselman farewell Approximately 15 people gathered at the Claresholm Airport Terminal Monday evening, March 14, to express good wishes and farewell to Slim and Ann Hasselman. M.C. for the evening, Rob Lange, welcomed all who came despite the cold and snowy night. He then introduced the Hasselman family, Slim and Ann, Philip, Brian and James. Pastor Gary Jensen of Peace Luthern Church reminisced about the times he shared with . the family. We heard more about the life of the Hasslemans through a vignette presented by Isabel Moser. Betty Slovak, on behalf of friends and neighbors, presented Hasselmans with the gifts from the pool at Godleys. These consisted of an engraved silver tray, crystal, and a wall clock.
