In the Edmonton Journal article, March 23, 1988, I quote: The Federal Government has suspended deportation . orders against 4Q Turks pending a decision by Quebec on whether it wants them to stay. Quebec is now in a position where they can, because of their special status as a distinct society, tell the Federal Govenment what to do and this article proves that power. Also, Benoit did not rule out further arrangements - up to and including a general amnesty for all 40,000 Turks, when Quebec makes up its mind. I ask, is Quebec with its special - distinct society status in the position to control where these immigrants, whom they sponsor, will live and if they will stay in Quebec? Or will Quebec be able to determine who emigrates to Canada then turn them free to choose the place of residence unrestrained by any regulations set up by Ottawa? In another article the same day in the Edmonton Journal Supreme Court weighs Alberta appeal on nobility I quote The Supreme Court of Canada was urged Tuesday by the Province of Quebec to narrowly interpret a charter of rights provision Quebec lawyer Yves de Montigny told the Court the province fought against a constitutional amendment that would reduce provinces barriers * against workers from the other provinces. So you see the stage is now set. The Meech Lake gives Quebec the right to control immigration into Canada. Once the immigrant 1s a citizen, those people can go where they want to work and live Quebec can ensure French speaking people are the majority of immigrants. Once here they have mobility, and with that mobility Silent killer Radon is an invisible, odourless, tasteless gas and it is our worst radiation hazard. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer next to smoking. Research has shown that this radioactive gas, which occurs naturally in the soil, can seep into buildings and accumulate posing a health hazard to occupants. An estimat d eight million homes in North America contain high levels. The Canadian Radon Detection Agency (CRDA) has. test kits available that will determine radon levels in individual homes. A rec nt Consumers Union report Strongly urges that all homes be screened for radon as seepage of the gas is a relatively easy problem to solve once detected. The CRDA is concerned over public apathy about this health hazard and hopes that homeowners will respond once they become aware of the seriousness of the radon problem. The CRDA is therefore making available to the public free information concerning radon gas in the home. This information can be obtained by move to other provinces, demand services in French or become employed by Government institutions, and- then exercies their right to work in the language of their choice, guaranteed by Bill C-72., General Montcalm who lost the Eyesight DEAR EDITOR: Spring flowers, green grass, leafy trees usher this season of new life. What a delight to look around and enjoy all of the spring beauty. Did you know that there are forty-two million people in the Developing World who cannot. enjoy this glory, and the sad thing is thirty million are needlessly blind. In the fall of 1987, I visited India and Bangladesh with my husband. We visited Operation Eyesight Universal sponsored hospitals and eye camps, where sight-giving cataract operations were performed. I held a happy,: once-blind four year old girl, who will now be able to return to her village and romp and play with her friends, I held the hand of a seven year old boy as he received the injection is his temple in preparation for cataract surgery. He was looking forward to schoo and learning. A sixty year old woman will now be able to see her grandson and a man is looking forward to returning to work to support his family. There were so many quiet, bandaged patients all awaiting the day when the gandages would be removed - the final step in this trip from darkness into light. Operation Eyesight Universal is a registered Canadian charity carrying on very intensive blindness prevention programs, working in thirteen countries of the developing world, bringing light and new life to the destitute blind. Something happened in Chittagong, Bangladesh that I would like to share with your readers. We attended a district ok Phone 625-2777 SE FRONTIER WESTERN SHOP Quality Western Wear. Knutson meeting: of Lions, Lionesses and Leos Clubs. As the meeting ended and we headed for the exit, the lights went out. We were feeling our way along in the dark. new when a gentle voice said, Take my hand, I will lead you. A Leo guided me safely down the aisle and up the few steps to the lobby. The lights came on, he disappeared into the crowd and we were whisked off to our next appointment. Later, as I went over this brief encounter with darkness, I realized that this is what Operation Eyesight is all about. Operation Eyesight Universal, with the help of the people of Canada is saying to the destitute blind of the world - Take our hands, we will lead you -from darkness into light, A twenty-five dollar cheque will take one person on this journey to new life. Will you extend a helping hand? Donations may be sent to Operation Eyesight Universal, p.o Box 123, stn. M , Calgary, Alberta, T2P 2H6. At this Easter Time, as we remember God s great gift of His Son to all the world, may we show our teal love by helping someone for Jesus sake - someone who can never return the favor: Restaurant After effects of abortion DEAR EDITOR. here is so much talk about abortion. Women think they have the right to abortion, and they keep defending their thought. But nobody thinks or talks about the after effects an abortion has - the guilty feelings they have all their life, the deep depression they suffer, Not only church-going women, but every woman is so affected. In God s Word, the Bible, it says (in Galation 6:7) Be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. In the country from which I emigrated, there is an old saying: It starts.in our home and family what shall shine bright out into our country Where is our country heading, when we give the right of abortion to whoever wants it? When somebody cmmits a murder, we put that person into jail. We are very upset that somebody can do such a cruel action. But woman think they have the sole right to do such an action on defenseless human beings; because they can not cry out, beg us not to do it or run away. Ladies wake up God created us to sustain life. not to destroy it.
