Learn-a-Lot Playschool holds fundraiser More Letters to the Editor minestrone Conversations with a burro DEAR EDITOR I wish to reassure Pastor Dick that it was his horse that I was talking to, and not his burro. The animal that I had conversation with had short ears and they were downcast. However, I did meet up with the burro the other day. It was a neat looking animal, intelligent, and seemed to have a lot of horse sense. gt; Like, when I asked him, How come you have such long ears? The reply was, The better to hear with, and I hardly miss. a thing. Do you know why the Lord gave everybody two ears and only one mouth? No , says I. Well , says he, we are supposed to listen twice as much speak. Oh , says I, that s why I see you just walking around all the time, and hardly ever stopping. I have to , says she, I'm looking. Looking for what? Thistles, says he, when the as we Lord made us, he put our kind in a desert, and you know that there is just thistles and cactus that grow there. So that s all we had to eat. and we got to like it. But , says I, I thought that the Mexicans made tequilla out of cactus juice. They do , says he, they finally figured out Why us burros were acting so darn human. How is Pastor Dick making out with his weight los program? , I ask Oh , says he, he is working on it. He is not visiting the restaurants like he used to, but'I think that he made an error. How come , sl Well, I see that. the annual Wilderness Ranch appreciation supper at the Community Centre is to be on the evening of April 8 That is almost in the middle of his weight loss program, and you just know how good that meal will be Jacketed potatoes, almost floating in butter, barbecued beef just the way he likes it..corn, peas, salads and gravy: After denying himself for a month, Dick will just have to load up with seconds, and there goes his diet. Why. he will put on twenty pounds You know , say what you CLARESHOLM, ALBERTA Face painting was also a popular event at the fundraiser just told mem. down to J.ucal Press right now and * na pledge sheet. Snowbirds diary DEAR EDITOR Spring ving. the 26 of Yuma, AZ is heaven. We sit out the closer we * every evening until 10 p.m ore anxious we chilly then) and smell Orange Blossoms S delightful. Really makes one hate the thought of hitting the road north again by havin on picnic Should be Headlights DEAR EDITOR: My wife and I recently drove up from Arizona to spend a month in Saskatchewan. It may be argued that I have no right to expect space in your Open Forum, but I shall write and leave that decision to the editor. We hear that your provincial insurance company recommends automotive headlight use at all times, Some people evidently agree because approximately one vehicle in four is following that practice We also note an alarming number of vehicles with only one headlight burning and sometimes alt four We residents of Arizona appreciate northerners visiting our state, because that brings very welcome business to our area. We notice many of these winter visitors are hauling trailers, which lower the rear of the vehicle considerably. The rear seat is sometimes filled to the top and, we suspect, so is the trunk. Because of this extra loading, the headlight beams are dangerously elevated On our highways, on a bright day headlights are not needed and therefore, we do not turn them on The few exceptions fre glaringly obvious, and are often on a vehicle a the brown from a Canadian prairie: province ur ok like I have no intention of suggesting Have eer, the what customs Canadian et Very adopt in their own c y stop in however, suggest the, have courtesy, when using roads we Arizona taxpayers have p: to refrain from unnecessa headlights. Stanley nd hope Mesa, Arizona, USA, for Montana Finally got a good snap of George and Georgette. Have been trying for ages. They are quite tame but are camera shy. They are the two road-runners who came to the door everyday for a raw meat dinner. Our next door neighbors have a humming bird feeder and its fun to watch them fight for a sip. They are tame too, and when you are watering the flowers will come right up and have a little sip of water. Such tiny creatures and so smart. Adios, and will see you soon.
