Lie il Society y 24 atthe sday, Feb- ommunity uck lunch Ww Sunday Ee Licencing bylaws enforced Claresholm Town Council has been forced, over the past couple of weeks, to stand strong behind their Bylaw Officer. When it came time to renew licences for 1988, many of the trade contrac- tors at the Willow Creek Au- xiliary Hospital site felt the rules did not apply to them. Many of the contractors started in the fall of 1987, but the li- cences run on a calendar year. Bylaw Officer, Wayne Kenna explained to council that they were only charged for the amount of the contract they would complete by the end of 1987 and now they must pay the balance. After the bills went out for the 1988 licences, they were given 30 days to pay. After that date, five contractors refused to pay. Kenna made several visits to the site to explain the situation and then, before fines had to be levied, three of the holdouts did pay. The remaining two com- panies were served a summons . for failure to comply and fined 200. One of the firms'then paid, while the other was fined 250 and 300 the next two days be- fore he finally paid the licencing fee. The R.C.M.P. accompanied Kenna onto the site to present the fines. . Where the Wheatlands Meet the Range The two firms which were fined will appear in court later this week on the first days fines of 200 each. The 550 in addi- tional fines to one contractor will go to court the following * week. It is unknown if the trades will plead guilty and pay the fines. 4 Council felt it was important they follow the process through. as it is imperative the licencing bylaw be adhered to At the present time, there are a few local businesses who had also not paid their, 1988: licence fee.
