1907 - 1988 The 81-year life of the old Baptist Church in Claresholm came to an end last Wednesday when crews began demolishing the old building. Attempts to sell the historic building before it was demolished did not work out leaving another empty space on the street and in the history books. a Upstairs in downtown Granum Annual meeting, budgeting, tax lot sales, park servicing and library proposals headed the agenda for Council's consideration at their regular March 7 town council meeting. Date for the annual meeting is to be March 28 at 7:30 in the Blunden Hall. Council encourages all residents to attend and discuss the what , where , why , and how much that is involved in running our town. A committee has been appointed by council to investigate the pros and cons of a possible joint library. Representatives have been chosen from the present town library board, The Parent Advisory Committee, school board, town council and the rural M.D. Council set out terms of reference and requested a written report summarizing this investigation and making recommendations regarding the joining of town and school libraries. This report is expected by April 24. Six town lots will be offered for tax sale on April 4. Further information can be obtained from the Town Office. Increased safety and reduced confusion should result from the installation of a-street light at the corner of Railroad Avenue and Highway 519. Council has held two meetings concentrating on the 1988 budget. To date reductions in the Dream Department have been made in order to keep the municipal portion of the mill rate at or near last year's, withouth jeopardizing services. Requisitions from various authorities such as Willow Creek School Division have not been received, so their potential impact on the mill rate is not. known at this time. nw Taking Care of Business is the theme at this year s Economic Development Workshop . for- Alberta on April 9. Three Success Stories will be presented. Mayor Larry DeMaere and councillor Bourke have been invited as guest speakers, to tell the Granum story. Presentations from High River and St. Albert are also expected. Noting the 3.5 per cent increase in the requisition from F.C.SS., council will be investigating the Programs and services of that department to determine if our community benefits warrant such an increase, Adjourning on a lighter note, council scanned the Local Press searching for the Claresholm Council's report of the Shuffle Curl Challenge Once again the tricky ice Granum is famous for has produced champion.curlers.
