4 - Claresholm Local Press, Wednesday, June 30, 1999 Fundraiser keeps organizer in Focus Ecumenical BY MARION HART Local Press Contributor. Our Fundraiser, Fashion Show and Concert for the Albanian Kosovars was a success, Our models both male and female were beautiful- ly and handsomely attired and were very much at home presenting them- selves like professionals down the ramp and into the cabin. There were 20 models and each.one wore three or four outfits. They. were under the tutelage of Judy Jones. who makes jewellery and is a professional model. Mae McPeak, the lady in charge of the show, is a very genial and. gracious person. They were just super to work with. Behind-scenes-antics The antics behind the scenes. will long be remembered One lady chose my clothes closet in which to dress. Her turns came around, fast and in desperation she forgot the clothes closet threw on a dress while doing up the butions on the way and Judy said Run, run so on her very.. .high-heeled stilettoes she ran down the ramp and then appeared graciously poised and demure, the essence of serenity. I chose to not be a model in. the show so -l eould attend to coffee and lunch in the kitchen, but I wore a long black dress with matching jacket by Focus. I was clegantly attired and ' completely organized (at first.) Suddenly a metamor- phosis took place and my actions were that. of a gofer. Our Modcl Superior needed soft music for the background. I flew around the house and found a big ghetto blaster and also a tape first came Cats then Phantom of the Opera and she settled for Bach. Up next was a singer in a dither who needed a piece of music In. the Garden. I was thinking it would be nice in the garden Next a model had to have a green ribbon oh yes basement. Down the stairs I flew in the lovely long dress, by Focus, a speedy missile by now, retrieved the green ribbon, because the bagpiper reported something had changed and one of the models was going to do the Highland fling. She needed a green ribbon to tie around her leg. I believe this green ribbon was sup- posed to match the tartan which the piper. was wearing. They said she danced with, ease and expertise. I don t kKnow didn't have time to. see. This time I was off on another flight in the gor- geous black dress made by Focus. Top professional model needed. ice water, No,. some- one hadn't: faint- ed, just thirsty. David Hart, one of the male mod- els, was walking around with his video camera, Marion suspects cooking up anoth- er intriguing Christmas letter, It surprised him when, oops,. he opened the wrong door I finally arrived back for the con- cert just in time to off again in search of an auctioneer, because Ted Hames said he brought an extra pair of pants and he wanted his Wayne Newton, beautiful light green, western cut suit auctioned off for Kosovo. He. was the star for the day. I had little luck finding an auctioneer so I pre- vailed on. our minister Rev. Murray Etty and he didn't let me down. Murray can rise to any occasion M.C, for .a fashion show and then auctioneer, wonderful Evelyn Heward started off the bidding and asked whether Ted went along with the suit. Norman Kirkwold of Airdrie had the final bid on the suit at 70. Ted was able to keep. the suit and he was very happy with the: transaction. It brought more money to help the children of Kosovo. Everyone thought he looked downright snazzy and they want to see him wearing it to church. In the years to come it could be used for a fundraiser or kept for posterity. Now at last, after two hours, I was able to take refuge in my kitchen. Everyone was hungry and the coffee smelled good.
