Jl fy p / aJZm' Published at the Highest Altitude of any Newspaper in British America. ' Assiniboine 12.5U0 ft. above . and never yet been scaled by man. Vol. i No. 20. Banff Hot Springs, Alta., April 29, 1901. i*oo a Year Kround The Phrk. - - gt; ' All the animals in the buffalo enclosure have come through the winter in excellent condition. These animalscon- stitute a neverfailing source of attrac tion -to- visitors at Banffi and Supt. Douglas is to be congratulated on the success which has attended his efforts in trying to make the collection com- ' plete. I The Banff Springs Hotel is being got ready for the seaspn..'. business and will re-open about the usual time May 15. The Company contemplates spending-a large sum of money on improvements this summer, in anticipation of a greatly increased traffic, and it is to be hoped / a they will not be dissappointed--more jwwer to them. The Hot-water pipe leading from the loervoir to the Banff Springs Hotel h,as been undergoing a general overhauling during the past week or so:-the. line leading to the Sanitarium having undergone a similar operation last year. It wouldn't be a bad thing if the Government could see their way 'clear to extending a branch line across the Bow bridge and along Banff avenue, with drinking fountains at convenient spots. What a blessing it would be' to thirsty visitors, to say nothing about the benefits to the citizens of Banff.. For the matter of that, it might be arranged so that the pure* cold water from the cold spring could be brought down in the summer season and the hot water Could then be turned on in the winter, therein- avoiding the danger of the pipes freezing.up in cold weather. Standing on the station platform the other morning a remark reached my ears from the lips of a gentleman evidently an American to the effect that if the Banff Park was situated across the line the people of that enterprising nation would turn it into a veritable paradise in two shakes. Of course he may only have been talking through his hat, but it does seem as. though the wheels of the Canadian Government moved at a very slow rate. All things come to him that waits -and but life is so short.' The LUNATICK. Crag Canyon's Weather Record. Following are the readings of the thermometer for the week ending at 8 p. m. Saturday night.
