They leave at a time when the days are long and the sun is bright. But they leave, too, at a time when it seems dif- ficult to find a job that matches their skills or expectations. They are no different than those of us. who completed our studies during the “dirty thirties.” That generation did not despair. They perservered. They accepted the opportunities that were presented and then moved onward. and up- vacuum that was created. Their labors created the Canada the new graduates will inherit but they did not foresee the pressures that forces outside Canada would play on our economy. There is a new battle to fight. It is an economic one and one cannot be faint hearted in meeting that new challenge. The new crop like those of 50 years or more ago, must seize any Opportunity presented and use that as the building block to fur- ther their own careers. Mobil moves The transfer of administrative and engineering personnel Mobil Oil to Olds is a real boost for this community. The initial impact will likely be felt in: the housing - market but as family units begin to come together in Olds, new faces, new ideas, new demands and new customers will impact every facet of community life. Trustees of the Mountain View County school committee would be well advised to begin im- mediate discussions with the new arrivals to determine the numbers of children who will be attending Olds schools. Present enrolments by . are placing a strain on existing space and those plans for an Olds middle school may have to be ac- celerated. For those who have watched ' Olds’ steady plodding growth, the Mobil move is seen as another stepping stone. Fortunately there is a good inventory of serviced land both for industry and for new homes. Most of our community services are adequate to serve a much larger population. If there is an exception, it is the swimming pool. Maybe it’s a good time to start looking at replacing this 25-year-old facility. another celebration While plowmen from around the world showed off their skills in ear- ly June, behind the scenes, the cogs and pieces were being assembled for staging the 1986 Olds County Fair. A record number of dairy and beef cattle are booked into the Olds fairgrounds for those impor- tant three days in August - the 7th, 8th and 9th. An excellent array of talent has been booked for the grandstand show, an improved midway is coming, the trade fair, horticulture and arts show has been moved to the curling ‘rink and the beer garden takes over the auxiliary ice surface. Add to that a heavy horse. show and a number of other attractions including the first ever Cattle Feeders Derby and those three days. in August emerge as a major 1986 attraction "jin Olds. It’s another celebration of sorts and one that’s been going.on con- tinuously for over 80 years. the delicate balance We do not normally comment on the results of legal battles because the: scales of justice are so delicately balanced. But the two year legal battle waged by the Senger and Coston families of Olds shows that customers do have a legal stake in goods that have been bought and paid for. In this case, the goods were two valuable motorhomes which the couples had in their possession for a brief time. They returned them to the vendor to -have certain extras installed that were in the purchase agreement. While on the sales lot, these vehicles along with others, together with the assets of the vendor were. seized to satisfy a financial obligation. Monday’s favorable ruling by Mr. Mr. Justice J. L. MacPherson means that the Sengers and Costons get their money back with interest. For these Olds couples, faith in the Canadian legal system has been restored.
