The Calgary Herald in ifs editorial columns, Thursday, refers to the party in part as follows Calgary was permitted by the turn ot events to welcome during Stampede week a distinguished party of our fellow French-Canadian citizens. They are traversing the Dominion under the direction of the University of Montreal. Their arrival here at this time1 while the Stampede ia in progress was a happy coincidence, They caught a glimpse of the conditions that attach to a ranching country which must have been to them both novel and entertaining. The University of Montreal is to. be congratulated upon its happy thpught of directing parties of citizens of Quebec upon visits to the Western Provinces. Such visits -are-tntrtwally beneficial to guests and hosts. Contact is followed by understanding, appreciation, friendship and good-will. Banff Golf Club On Sunday laat. SfflW Slides Near Revelstoke Hundreds of huge boulders, weighing two to three tona each, a veritable river of water, tnad aad big timbers poured across the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks near Lauretta, about 16 miles east of Revehtoker C. According to reports there were two distinct snow slides, the first striking the railway tracks at 11.10 o'clock Tuesday night, and the second early Wednesday morning. Thousands of tons of wet snow moved down the mountain side with a reverberating roar, covering tbe track with six to eight feet of water for a distance of about 700 feet, A'portion of the trackage was washed out necessitating re-routing of trains. Telegraphic communication was temporarily disorganized. Crews were rushed to the scene to clear the debris from the track. Tbe intense heat of recent date, coupled with heavy rainfall, is believed to have been responsible for tbe slides. Tbe tratks were cleared and repaired and train service trom the west resumed Thursday evening.
