David Crowchild farming at Sarcee reserve, Alberta.
David Crowchild was born on 12 April 1899 on the Tsuut'ina (Sarcee) reserve near Calgary, Alberta. As a young adult, Crowchild worked in the rodeos and at Indian fairs. He was especially interested in riding broncos and helped promote chuck wagon racing at the Calgary Stampede. He became the Tsuut'ina People's leader for seven years (1946-1953), during which time he established his status as a distinguished leader. He worked diligently to improve infrastructure for the people on the Tsuut'ina reserve. He also created jobs for the members of his community by building a school, repairing roads, and establishing a farm and cattle herd. After his successful tenure as Chief, he continued to be involved in the community. He was a long-time member of the Indian Association of Alberta, and served on committees such as the Old Timers Association, the Calgary Pioneers, and the Calgary branch of the Canadian Citizenship Council. He passed away on 10 April 1982 on the Tsuut'ina Reserve.
