Born in Henry County, Illinois in 1844. Known for his photographs of the Riel Rebellion and trial, and views along the Canadian Pacific Railway, Buell lived with his family in the vicinity of Quebec City from 1887 to 1893. He died of a heart attack and was buried in Montreal on April 4, 1910.
