Teddy Must Lie Quiet as He Can Examination Proves Colonel s Wound Is not Merely Superficial De- spite All He Eats Ravenously, Tells Press Represntatlves He Will Hurry and Get Up So He Can Help Them Keep Busy. (W. A. P. Despatch) Chicago, Oct. 16. That Theodore Roosevelt was not merely superfici- ally wounded by the bullet fired into his breast yesterday in Milwau- kee by John Schrank, was determined last: night by surgeons after all day examinations and consultations. The Colonel must not see or apeak to any one for sevral days without permis- sion from the doctors. s The wound was definitely deserib- ed as a serious wound in the chest ang not a mere flesh wound. The others than his attendants, declared that quiet is absolutely essential. The surgeons, asserted, however, that it was not yet Tecessary to probe for the. bullet and the patient will prob- ably be kept as calm as his nature will alloy for several days. He Eats Ravenously. The patient slept slept well at in- tervals during the day, ate rayenous- ly of articles customarily making up his Dill-of-fare, read lengthy ex- tracts from papers and hinted to his physicians that he would not object to a ride in the fresh alr. Finally, Warning that the corres- pondents accompanying bim on his speoking tour, who had left him after the assault in Milwaukee, to file their articles, had rejoined him at the hos- pital, Colonel Roosevelt insisted that communication with him be ignored for the time. He received the news- papermen with an apology for not Tising, fested with them about his condition and sald, TT hurry up and et out of here so I can keep you busy again. : * Trial After Election, (W..A.
