HUCKSTERS AND GROCERS TABOO, HOUSEHOLDERS ONLY Hopes to Encourage Far- mer to Come in and the Purchasers to Patronize Market: Medicine Hat-in a short time is to have one of the most up-to-date mar- cets in Western Canada. Phey-put the alderman wh6 is no good for anything else at the head of the Parks and Markets, is the way Ald, McClellan puts it, but ne hopes if he s on the city council next year, that they will leave him In the same Position. It might also be noted that Mr. McClellan is the first real head that this branch of civic development has had. The market at the present tlme is. the best that it has ever been and it will be better. Mr. McClellan at the present time is working out many plang for the betterment of the mar- ket and im a short time he hopes to have it the purchasing centre of the city, for the householder to purchase their vegetables, etc., and for the far- mer to sell his wares. He is of the opinion that the householder will be able to get things cheaper and the farmer will make more money by be- ing encouraged to grow these every- day wants. The huckster is to be taboded, and so is the grocer and buyer till elther 10 or 11 a mand by that time it. fs hoped that the householder wili have completed her or his purchases. The market during the past month has showed a wonderful change and it is. expected that in the future the changes will be even greater. Supt, Heals, of the parks, is now in direct charge of the market under Mr McClellan. : Many big plans for new parks are also being worked out, and also an- other plan to have all the in the one place. BYLAWS CONSOLIDATED City Council Passed New Bylaw at Special Meet- ing. o The city council held a meeting last night to pass the new by-law drafted by Magistrate Kealy and City Solici- tor Mahaffy, consolidating the various by-laws of the city. The by-law was Tead over by the council, considered in committee of the whole, and finally Dassed. A couple of oil men want to build oil Warehouses in the city, They havebeen dealing with the council for some time. The question of where to locate them is a hard one to decide, and the council is now finding out just where other western cities haye placed their storehouses. Ald. Evans brought up the matter of sign boards and signs on fenc: He askedthat-the by-law be reai and it was found that no boards may be erected within ten feet of the street line, and then a permit must be secured from the building inspec- tor. I have been un able to find anyone who knows this person and I donot find his name in Bristol's new Medicine Hat directory. From his slimy obscurity this fellow accuses each ber of the counclt of -being a party to graft and the misuse of the city s money in buying unsalable land owned by Ald. Doty and Mr. Elliott for 40,000 for a hay market. There is nothing to it. The selection of Ist Ave. between Main St. and the river as a TEM- PORARY hay market went through the counctl in the ordinary way and was adopted upon the recommenda- tion of the Parks and Markets Com- mittee in order to relieve the very evident congestion in the Montreal St market. Ald. Doty and Mr. El- Mott have not at any time been ap- proach d by any member of the Parks and Markets Committee regarding the sale of their property. The other insinuations in Hay- stead s letter are of the same stripe. Not one statement has any spark of. truth in ft, and the whole letter would seem to be the vemonous ex- Pression of a morbid mind. 8, BE, McCLELLAN, PERRY, SEWELL PERRY S REALTY REVIEW The News says the Associated Press wants newe Tet hand, IN THAT CASE Thon, tm that case, the city should veo Kept a good-live-correspond that they would be able to especially when a semi-w n the goed sa mee hand, own Jocal Paper can always get It trom welling articles spaper.
