Sanadian Winnipeg, Sept Pacifio Railway Company's crop re port for the week ending Sept. 13th says In Manitoba 80 to 85 per cent. of the wheat is cut and in some por- tions in the south threshing is gen eral in most districts. The weather during the past week was unfavor able, but as many of the wet days were followed by bright sun and wind recovery was quick and delay was not great. In Saskatchewan 65 to 75 per cent. of the wheat is in stooks and as high as 9 per cent. in some dis- and forward district. triets on the Moose Mountain Portal In Southern Alberta from 85. to 90 per cent. of the wheat; is cut and , in the north from 35 to 60 per cent. Winter wheat cutting was completed last week. The quality of the crop is generally better than last year. Oats are up to the average. Bar Tey, though low, is a good crop and flax is much better than usual. Edmonton, Sept. 13 F. T. Fisher, of the Board of Trade, and Secre- tary August Wolf, of the Citizens League, spent yesterday in and around the country about Edmonton looking over harvest conditions. As far as I could see, said Mr. Fisher, and I inspected a great number of jflelde. the grain has not suffered a particle. It is in splendid condition. and the crop is exceedingly heavy. The speeches were impromptu, short. humorous, and full of good words and praise for the teaching fraternity, and also the Scool Board. Chairman Wilson, Mayor Spencer, Hon. C. R. Mitchell, Rev. E. A. Davis, Rey. J. W. Morrow, and Rev. E. EB. Hench were the speakers. James Hallworth and Mr Duggan each sang, and their offerings were received- with the loudest . of ap- plause. Miss Patten rendered. two very pleasing piano selections, She is a new and very valuable addition to the teaching staff- D. R. Ware gave. one of his excellent recitations and was received with storms of ap- plause. he orchestra rendere* two pleasing numbers, Chairman Wilson in his opening remarks extended a welcome to all and hoped that they would have a pleasant evening. He gave a short outline of the purpose of the Board in-holding the meeting, which was to extend the warm hand of welcome to the teachers who have just arriy- ed, as-well a8 to the other teachirs and to have them meet. with the parents. 5 Mayor Spencer paid a tribute to, James Halworth for the splendid way in which he rendered Long Live the King. He congratulated all on the spirit of the gathering and the dea which prompted the holding of it, He had always, from the time he was a little boy, held great deal of respect for the school teachers. He recounted a couple of humorous incidents of his school life, j which he sald evidenced the fact that he had reason to respect them. He was.of the opinion that in the hands of the school teachers is the making of a country, and he thought that the School Board -was taking the right attitude In welcoming the teachers and bringing them together with the parents. There is no body/ which has so much influence over the young as our school teachers. He had heard remaric made earlier in the evening that the teachers were a lovely lot and he quite agreed with the statenient. He paid a high tri- bute to the School Board. The man- ner In which they were carrying on matters was setting a high ideal for the pupils, He closed after express. ing his pleasure at being atthe re- eption and mentioning the fact that Medicine Hat was a good place to live: To the lady school teachers he mentioned the fact that there were a fiumber of young men, and jed me to try Dr, Williams Pink Pills men that the teachers were a lovely lot. Hon. C. R. Mitchel was delighted to be present and address a few words to the gathering. It was only 4 short Ume ago whea the schools of Medicine Hat were housed bet- Ween four walls, but now the build- ing had been so outgrown, and so. many others erecte , of in the course jof erection, that ir had been dispos- It 1 pro- ed of to make way for others. was evidence of srowth sress of which we- all were proud Medicine Hat had always had a good school board and while the past boards did all they possibly could, it remained for the past few boards and the present one to carry out the big work and-outstrip the others: He thought the first real step that tme board had taken was when they appointed Mr, Hay as superintend- ent of the schools After that the big schools came. They showed that the boards were broad, and lb- eral-minded, not nisgardly. In his recent tour over the city he was pleased to see the handsome schools which were being ted, and hear of others which it was pro- posed to erect. He did not think that there was any city in the pro- vince better fitted out with excell- ent schools He came to the gather- ing to see what it was like and en- Joy himself. For two and:a half years he had been head of the edu- cation of the Province, though at the present time he was not connected with the department, still that did not prevent. him taking an interest in education in the province, and par- ticularly in Medicine Hat. During his term of office be put into effect a system of education which Is con- sidered by experts to be one of the best on the continent. He did not take the credit for it, however. It was due to a body of teachers who had gathered and drafted it out. He accepted it and it was passed pract- ically without any changes. The only credit he as Minister of educa- tion took was that he realized that It was a good system they had draft- ed, and had passed it. This was the first time that he had the oppor- tunity of attending a function of this kind here. He had been to others outside of the city, but his heart had not been in them like as if-it had been in Medicine Hat, his home town, and for this reason he was doubly thankful for the privilege of being present at the gathering. Rev. B, A. Davis, Rev. Mr. Morrow and Rev. Mr. Hench were then call- ed-upon for three minute speeches. all three sp eches were decidedly humorous In character; at th same time congrati members. of the board on thelr excellent work, and also the teachers, and expressed hope that they would enjoy their work here. On behalf of the teachers Mr. Lazerte spoke a few words, thanking the board for their kindness ii ex- jtending the reception to the teach- ers. Refreshments were served and an excellent dance programme brought the event to a close. ITHE TRUE GAUSE - OF RHEUMATISM Due to Acid in the Blood Can Only Be Cured Through the Blood. Not many years ago even doctors thought that rheumatism was only a local pain caused by exposure to. culd or wet. Now they know that the trouble is ot caused by the blood becoming tainted with uric acid. This condition of the blood causes the muscles to contract, stiffens the Joints and irritates the nerves. If not promptly treated the stiffness Spreads and the pain grows worse until you ere a helpless cripple, tor- touches the heart it means sudden death. You cannot: cure rheumatism with liniments, plasters or hot cloths, a3 so many try to do. You must go right to the root of the trouble in the blood. The scientific way to cure Theumatiem is to take Dr. Williams* Pink Pills, vhieh make new, rich blood that goes right to the root of the trouble. They sweep out the poi- sonous acid, loosen the aching joints and muscles and bring ease and free- dom where before had been pain and misery. 5 Miss Beulah Sheppy, Morpeth, Ont., says: bullowing an attack of meas- tes I took inflammatory rheumatism. My joints became swollen and the. Pain was almost unendurable. I doc- tored with two doctors, but the pain was only relieved while I was taking their medicine, and soon returned. For six months I continued to suf- fer in this way. Then I tried elec- trie pads, but they failed to do me any good. Finally a friend persuad- and I had not been taking them long before I found relief. I continued us- ing the pills for a time and soon found myself in perfect health and feeling like a new person. I never lose an opportunity to recommend Dr. Williams Pink Pills as I cannot say enough in favor of them.
