He will resign unless a ade- quate response is made before September. ) The Bishop says he has made thousands of appeals to members of the Chureh in Eng- land, having South American interests, by letters and also personally. The opportun- ity for religious-and medieal work, he says, will be greatly intensified by the opening of the Panama Canal. . THE QUESTION of transportation and the matter of furnishing water for the stock are two things which have been as flies in the ointment in connection with the success of the Exhibition ever since the Agricultural Society moved its headquz ters of the present location. Tt has always been felt that sooner or later these questions would have to be faced and it would seem that the time has now arrived when the Society will have to determine once and for all whether the present grounds are to be its permanent home. Police Point has been mentioned as a lo- eation, which would be more suitable as a site. If the selection fell upon this location We have opened an office in Suite IL, in the Im- perial Bank Building. We will be pleased to re- ceive ANY ORDERS or PAYMENTS OF AC- COUNTS at our up Town Offices. J. H. If such a plan is seriously contemplated it would seem foolish to expend further money in improving the present site. It will be years before the transportation problem fan be solved and in the meantime the growth of the Fair will remain limited. The water question is even more serious but it would be a foolish expenditure to pipe the water out from the city and have to abandon the system in the course of a year or 80. q grounds wonld be regarded as a town park SeoR a gi ce ee a sl te Special Attention Given to SAVINGS BANK DEPARTMENT. 3 MEDICINE HAT BRANCH Fourth Avenue: : C. THEY multipty-ten-tmes-as-raptaty as horses, seven times as rapidly as eat- tle and five times as rapidly as sheep. They produce one pound of gain live weight on 25 per cent. less of feed than do eattle or sheep and in proportion to their live weight yield a 50 per cent. heavier dressed carcass. Of a given weight of dressed pork and beef, there is 5 per cent. more edible meat on the hog carcass, and one pound of pork will sus- tain a man at hard labor 20 per cent. longer than will.a like amount of beef or mutton. There is no kind of meat that lends itself to curing purposes as well as does pork: +) For this reason it is the staple meat on the farm. Every farmer should raise enough lt; of pork to supply his own family and most Alberta farmers will find a few hogs are * handy things to have around when a note comes due. The dairy cow to meet running expenses and the hog to lift the mortgage is a combination hard to beat on any farm. W. F, Stevens, Live Stock Commissioner for Alberta. Soateeteateatoctratedtet oe GRAIN ALMOST ALL CUT. THE WHEAT in the Medicine Hat dis- trict has ripened earlier than in many other parts of the West and over ninety per cent. of it has been eut. The farmers who seeded flax this spring are also begin- ning to harvest and the crop promises to be a splendid one. The only grain which is standing to any extent is that in the vicin- ity of the Cypress Hills and it will probably be cut next wi Some of the farmers are even lucky enough to have already threshed. He would be like great men, who never lost their tempers at least, over trifles. He would keep quite still and count a hundred very slowly whenever he- felt his anger rising, and then mother would give him a sweetie. Half an hour after this little sermon, a loud yell arose from the vicinity of the vegetable garden. His mother rushed out, and found her tender offspring in a white pas- sion sitting on their next door neighbor s little boy. He hit me first said Willie, glowering. But didn t you promise me, cried his mother, to count a hundred be- fore you gave way to your wicked temper? Yes muvver, nodded Willie, and t+ what E m doin .
